NOTICES:

Allergies:  There are children in the class who are allergic to all nuts, especially peanuts.  Please do not send any snacks or goodies with these items as they will not be distributed at snack time due to the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Chapel:  I still have not had any parents volunteer for the 30 minute slot in Chapel.  If you would be interested in doing so, please let me know immediately.  Chapel is at 8:40 until approx. 9:20 every Wednesday morning.

Special Classes:  Your child will have Music class on Monday afternoons, P.E. and Library on Wednesday afternoons.  Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately to participate in P.E.  If they are not, they will not be allowed to have class with the other children and this will affect their P.E. grade.

Disciplinary Policy:  Wow!  Who would have thought that watching another child "pull a card" would have such an impact!  I hope that the "daily disciplinary reports" I have sent home have been helpful.  You do not have to return the daily reports, but I do ask you to sign and return the weekly report so that it can go in your child's classroom file.  Thanks to those of you who have been so helpful in reiterating to your child what the expected behaviors are and how they can achieve those.

As the children have made friends and have become much more comfortable with the classroom routine, some of them have gotten so comfortable that they like to talk and "horse-around" during class time.  If you know your child is a notorious "talker" or likes to wrestle (!) at inappropriate times, you may want to remind your child that their behaviors are inappropriate and will result in them pulling a card.

I'm sure that you noticed that if your child had 5 days of good behavior they received a gift card to Applebee's Restaurant.  I have a good many of these cards, but I would really like to change it up and reward their obedience with other things too.  If you have any ideas or supplies, please send them along as right now I'm focusing on determining how best to teach each child in the class.

Reading Books:    When your child can read you the story fluently, please send the book back to class. Mrs. Baush and I will hear them read us the story, and if they can do so, they will receive their next reader.  The students are required to read the words at the ends of the books.  If your child seems to be struggling with this, please review and review as these are basic words they will be reading the rest of their lives.  Again, if I can answer your questions, please feel free to come in and ask.

FIELD TRIP:  Please sign and return the Field Trip form I sent home on Friday.  As noted, your child must have some type of vehicle restraint.  We will also need several parents to drive and chaperon our trip.  There are lots of interesting things to see at the Fire Station and we don't need any little ones wandering off.  As I mentioned, your little ones (tag-alongs) are always invited to accompany us on our field trips.  Our next Field Trip will be to the Police Station.

Thanks for your help in the classroom so far.

Sincerely,

Dena S. Burr
